What happens if you forget your clothes in the laundromat overnight? ›

"What if I leave my clothes by mistake?" Clothes left in a dryer will be put on the folding tables. Clothes left in washers will be left overnight. If they aren't retrieved by 9am they will be dried (so they don't start to get that funky wet laundry smell!) and held for dryer cost plus a $5 handling fee per dryer load.

Here's an example to illustrate: Suppose you have a medium-sized load that would fit well in our 40-pound washer, priced at $6 per load. You estimate it would require two drying cycles, totaling 30 minutes, costing $1.50. In this scenario, bringing $7.50 to cover the washer and dryer expenses should suffice.

It typically takes about half an hour each to wash and dry a load of laundry, so you'll probably be there for at least an hour. Do you bring your own detergent to a laundromat?

It's most of the time acceptable for people to leave their clothes washing/drying while they leave the laundromat for a short period of time. Please choose your outing carefully. Set a timer to ensure no time is wasted or you don't forget altogether.

If you are going to leave the laundromat, please return prior to the end of your machine's cycle. Please leave the machine door open after finishing your final cycle. Remove laundry from dryer upon completion to avoid wrinkling. Follow all Speed Queen guidelines and operational rules.

In short, the answer is Yes! Simply toss the pod into the drum area before you lock/close the door and you'll be good to go! Be sure to NOT put it in the regular liquid detergent area of the machine as that may cause damage/blockage and result in clothes not getting cleaned correctly.

Bacteria and germs have not yet been able to spread and you can dry your laundry. You should do it as soon as possible, because while your laundry is still wet, it can continue to form bacteria. It's therefore best to hang them in a place with low humidity so that they dry as quickly as possible.

If your laundry has been waiting in the drum for 8 to 12 hours, then we would strongly recommend re-washing. In this space of time, bacteria and mould may have easily begun spreading. You should try to stay one step ahead of it. Don't worry, if your laundry was only left for just a few hours, it will be totally fine.

Rescuing your forgotten load

Clothing that's only slightly whiffy can simply be air-dried. If you hang the item up outdoors, the breeze and fresh air will help remove the mildewy odour and save you the trouble of having to run another load.

Soaking clothes overnight gives the detergents time to start breaking down not just the dirt, but the fabric of your clothes themselves.
