The sequel to Namco's earlier fighting game Soul Edge, continuing the story of the cursed blade "Soul Edge" (now corrupting the noble knight Siegfried into the dreaded knight Nightmare).

    Short summary describing this game.

    Characters

    Characters
    • Aeon Calcos Aeon Calcos, sometimes known as "Lizardman", makes his first appearance in Soul Calibur. He later appeared in Soul Calibur III, and Soul Calibur IV. It should be noted that a different lizardman appeared in Soul Calibur II. His trademark weapons are an axe and a shield.
    • Arthur A generic blonde swordsman used as a replacement for Mitsurugi in the Korean version of the Arcade game Soulcalibur. He later makes an appearance as a bonus character in Soulcalibur III.
    • Astaroth Astaroth is a golem spawn created by the grand priest of the cult Fygul Cestemus. He seeks the Soul Edge for his master.
    • Bangoo Rock's adopted son
    • Cervantes de Leon Cervantes is a dual wielding Spaniard swordsman from the SoulCalibur series, an undead pirate who seeks to regain Soul Edge for its unlimited power.
    • Chai Xianghua Xianghua is a Chinese Soul Calibur fighter, armed with a nameless magic sword and fighting with an elegant Chinese style that resembles dancing. As of Soul Calibur V, she has been replaced in the roster by her daughter, Chai Leixia.
    • Edge Master Edge Master makes his first and only appearance in Soul Calibur
    • Elysium Just as Nightmare/Inferno is the living incarnation of the power of Soul Edge, the cursed sword, Elysium is the living incarnation of the power of the spirit blade Soul Calibur.
    • Heishiro Mitsurugi Heishiro Mitsurugi is a wandering samurai determined to prove that he is the greatest swordsman in the world. Due to his aggressive, arrogant demeanor he is often tempted by Soul Edge.
    • Hwang Hwang is a Korean martial artist from the Soul series. He has appeared in Soul Blade, Soul Calibur and Soul Calibur III.
    • Inferno Inferno is the boss in Soul Edge, Soul Calibur, and Soul Calibur II. He is the soul of the evil blade Soul Edge.
    • Ivy Valentine Ivy is the busty femme fatale of the Soul Calibur series. She is known for her whip-like sword, conspicuous lack of clothing, and voluptuous figure.
    • Kilik A master of the Ling-Sheng Su style of martial arts, Kilik is a major character in Soul Calibur, and wields the bo staff Kali-Yuga in battle. He is likely the biological father of Xianghua's daughter, Leixia.
    • Maxi Maxi debuted in the original SoulCalibur and has continued on into the sequels that have followed. Using his powerful nunchaku, this wandering pirate can certainly hold his own against any threat.
    • Pyrrha Alexandra The daughter of Sophitia and Rothion and elder sister of Patroklos. Though mentioned as far back as the original Soul Calibur, she first appears as a playable character in Soul Calibur V.
    • Rock Despite being a British nobleman, Nathaniel "Rock" Adams fights like a savage, bearing enormous hammers and clubs in combat and wearing the pelts of dangerous animals as his armour. His enormous body was the inspiration for the murderous golem, Astaroth.
    • Seung Mina Seung Mina is a Korean warrior who was first featured in Soul Blade, the precursor to the Soul Calibur series. She has been in the series ever since.
    • Siegfried Schtauffen The main protagonist of the Soul Calibur series, once corrupted by the evil Soul Edge and became the original Nightmare, and was later purified, wielding the sacred Soul Calibur instead as he quests to destroy Soul Edge forever.
    • Sophitia Alexandra Greek warrior, one of the main characters in the SoulCalibur Series, Sophitia received an oracle to destroy Soul Edge from Hephaestus, the god of fire and smithery. The thrust attacks from her sword as well as shield attacks are extremely powerful. Cassandra is her sister.
    • Soul Edge The living incarnation of Soul Edge's pure, malevolent will. Known as Soul Edge or Inferno, it is the source of corruption that transformed Siegfried into Nightmare.
    • Taki Taki is a busty kunoichi of the Soul Edge/Soul Calibur series. She's known for her high-flying acrobatics, agility, and ninja magic.
    • Voldo Italian fighter in the Soul Calibur series. Voldo is a fearsome and unpredictable warrior who does not speak, only emitting strange breathing sounds and shrieks. At 67, Voldo is the oldest main character in the Soul series whose lifespan has not been magically enhanced somehow.
    • Yoshimitsu Yoshimitsu is the original wielder of the Yoshimitsu sword, as well as leader of the Manji Clan.
